Although he said he can run at ddr with timings i would never guarantee it although most likely it should run fine. The GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS4 rev. 3.3 you pay for the tighter timings though is not representative of GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS4 rev. 3.3 performance gain you get, so any ddr with timings will be fine. If your ram was unstable its because you need to reduce the speed down to a level that it can operate at 1. Basically ddr with timings should be fine to run most ram at 1.
That spec "quote" was off the Gigabyte DS3 page - not intel's. Since I don't own this board, I'm just being cautious and going with what the vendors say or warn I was reading this review: I got this board from here about a GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS4 rev. 3.3 ago.
Its up and running now with a nice E 3. But the frist fe weeks were a nightmare.

Constant BSOD's and cold boot issues out the wazooh. I finnally ended up buying new ram and its a whole new system. No more cold boot issues or BSOD's.

In the meantime, the front side bus speed makes the board suitable for enthusiasts who want to overclock it. The memory slots have a clearance of about two centimetres from the CPU heat sink, but are almost in line with the first PCI Express graphics slot. This means that memory module installation or removal could be hindered if a long graphics card is installed.
